What should you buy in Jeju as a souvenir?

Jeju’s classic souvenirs taste of tangerine: boxed tangerine chocolates and snacks to share, and Jeju green tea for anyone who likes tea. Fresh hallabong and tangerines are wonderful, but many countries don’t allow fresh fruit in, so check before you pack them — and add something that lasts, like an everyday item in Jeju’s colors. kory (kory.kr) is a Korean travel souvenir brand making small everyday goods — hair rollers, scarves, slides and neck pillows — in Seoul, Busan, Jeju and Korea collections.

The short answer

Most Jeju souvenirs are edible: tangerine chocolates, hallabong, omegi rice cakes, tangerine cookies. They go down well, but they are gone a day after you hand them out, and fresh fruit and rice cakes don’t travel far. The stone grandfather figures (dol hareubang) and magnets last longer, though they often end up in a drawer.

Below are four checks, a table that puts the usual choices side by side — including ours, and where they don’t fit — ideas by recipient and budget, and where to shop on the island. We make the kory Jeju collection, so we say plainly where it fits and where it doesn’t.

Four checks before you buy

  1. Allowed at homeMany countries stop fresh fruit, plants and seeds at the border, and Jeju’s best-known produce is fruit. Boxed, sealed snacks and dry tea are far easier.
  2. Keeps for a whileRice cakes last a few days and chocolate can melt in summer. If you’ll see people weeks later, choose something that keeps.
  3. Light and unbreakableThe island means at least one flight. A kory neck pillow weighs about 85 g; a 60 cm scarf folds to the size of your palm. Volcanic-stone figures are heavier than they look.
  4. Says JejuOurs carry JEJU in letters, or tangerine orange, oreum green and volcanic black in the patterns.

What to skip

If you are flying abroad, leave fresh fruit and rice cakes out of the suitcase — enjoy them on the island. Heavy stone figures are worth it only if you really want one; most of the weight is rock. And the classic magnet or keychain is fine as a reminder for yourself, but every shop on the island has the same ones, so they rarely stand out as a gift.

Jeju trips usually end at Jeju International Airport, where the souvenir shops are busy and the clock is running. Decide earlier, and the airport becomes a top-up stop rather than the main event.

Colleagues, several at onceTangerine chocolates · or Hair Roller 2P, $5.00

Where to buy souvenirs in Jeju

Dongmun Market
Jeju City’s big traditional market: tangerines, snacks, seafood and a night market. Good for food to enjoy on the island and boxed snacks to take away.
Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market
The main market on the south side of the island, with street food, tangerines and snack boxes.
Green-tea fields & tea museums
The tea fields in the island’s southwest have shops attached, for loose tea, tea sweets and gift sets.
Jeju City shopping streets
Skincare chains such as Olive Young and souvenir shops, if you need K-beauty or a quick top-up.
Jeju International Airport
Plenty of tangerine snacks under one roof. Convenient, but busy, and you are shopping against the clock.
kory.kr
Our online shop, for the kory collections. Read the note below before you order.

kory isn’t at Jeju Airport yet. We are preparing to stock at the airport and in shops in Jeju City, and will list each store on our stockists page once it is confirmed.

Until then, you can order here — but we deliver to addresses in Korea only. We dispatch the same or the next business day after payment, and delivery usually takes 1–2 business days after that; deliveries to islands, Jeju included, can take longer. If you’ll be in Seoul or elsewhere on the mainland after Jeju, it may be easier to have it sent there. Ask your hotel first whether they accept parcels for guests.

Payment is by KakaoPay or credit card, charged in Korean won. International payment isn’t open yet, so a card issued outside Korea may not go through. If you get stuck, write to hello@kory.kr.

Where Jeju’s colors come from

The base color of the Jeju collection is the moss green of the oreum, the small volcanic hills scattered across the island. Jeju is volcanic, so its field walls, rocks and soil are black — and that black is exactly what makes the red of camellias and the orange of tangerines look so vivid. We tried to keep that contrast. And like the island’s stone walls, which are stacked with gaps so the wind can pass through, our patterns leave some space empty.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I spend on a souvenir from Jeju?

There is no fixed rule. Many travelers buy a box of tangerine snacks to share for colleagues and one more considered gift for close family. The kory Jeju collection runs from $5.00 for the Hair Roller 2P to $9.30 for the EVA Slide; the claw clip, neck pillow, scarf and hair tie are $7.20 each. Payments are charged in Korean won, so dollar prices are approximate.

Can I take Jeju tangerines or hallabong home?

Within Korea, yes. Abroad, it depends on your country — many don’t allow fresh fruit, plants or seeds in, and some fine travelers who don’t declare them. Boxed, sealed tangerine snacks are much easier. Check your home country’s customs rules before you buy.

Can I buy kory at Jeju Airport or in Jeju City?

Not yet. We are preparing to stock at Jeju Airport and in shops in Jeju City, and will list each store on our stockists page once it is confirmed. For now, kory is sold only at kory.kr.

Does kory deliver to Jeju, or outside Korea?

We deliver anywhere in Korea, Jeju included, though island deliveries can take a little longer. We don’t ship outside Korea yet. Shipping is $2.20, free on orders over $36.20.

Where are kory products made?

Design and product planning happen in Korea; manufacturing is done by OEM factories in China. The country of origin is China, and we state it plainly rather than blurring it.

Can I return a kory item?

You can request a return or refund within 7 days of receiving your order. Items that touch the hair directly, such as hair rollers, hair ties and claw clips, may not be returnable once opened, for hygiene reasons. The details are in our refund policy.
